Our three-term programme is designed to give young performers a well-rounded introduction to professional actor training, with each term focusing on a different area of performance.
Throughout the year, students will be introduced to techniques and exercises inspired by leading acting practitioners, including Stanislavski, Meisner and Chekhov, helping them develop a strong foundation in character, imagination, emotional connection, listening and truthful performance.
Each term builds on the last, allowing students to develop their confidence and technique while exploring performance across stage, screen and musical theatre.
The first term introduces students to the core principles of acting through the world of stage performance. Working with a range of texts and scenes from plays, students will explore character, relationships, objectives, listening and responding, while developing confidence and a strong stage presence.
Voice work will form an important part of the term, helping students develop projection, clarity, breath control and vocal expression, alongside an introduction to accent and dialect work. Students will explore how the voice can be used as a tool to communicate character, emotion and intention, while beginning to develop the vocal versatility required of a performer.
Through practical exercises, rehearsal and scene work, students will begin to understand how an actor approaches a text and brings a character to life, establishing strong foundations that will support their training throughout the rest of the year.

Building on the foundations established in Term 1, students will explore the specific techniques required for acting for camera. The focus shifts towards creating truthful, detailed performances for screen, with students learning how performance changes when working in front of a camera.
Alongside screen acting technique, students will develop an understanding of self-taping and the audition process, giving them practical experience of an important part of today’s industry.
At the end of the term, students will take part in our Screen Showcase, filming and submitting a self-tape of a selected monologue or duologue provided as part of the course. Each student will receive individual feedback on their performance, and showcase tapes will be shared with agents and casting directors, giving students an exciting introduction to the professional side of the industry.
In the final term, students will take the acting techniques developed throughout the year and explore how they can be applied to musical theatre performance.
Alongside continued character and performance work, students will develop their skills across singing, dance and movement, exploring how acting, voice and physical storytelling come together to create a complete musical theatre performance, developing their confidence and versatility as performers.
Throughout the term, students will rehearse and develop material towards an end-of-term presentation, giving them the opportunity to bring together everything they have learnt across the year and perform the musical theatre work they have been developing.
